There is nothing more unmistakably Texas than a landscape filled with Bluebonnets.
The Conservancy at Turtle Creek Park has a vision to create a beautiful Bluebonnet Garden along the north and south embankments of Cedar Springs Creek, transforming approximately 30,000 square feet into a signature spring landscape in the heart of Dallas.
Stretching from the restored Cedar Springs Cascade Waterfall to the pedestrian bridge, the garden will fill the creek banks with Texas Bluebonnets, creating a dramatic display that can be enjoyed from every angle at ground level and from the residential high-rises surrounding Turtle Creek Park.
But before we can grow Bluebonnets, we have to prepare the garden.
The embankments are currently filled with overgrown weeds, vines, shrubs, sapling trees and other unwanted vegetation. Creating the Bluebonnet Garden will require extensive clearing, grading, slope preparation, soil improvements and erosion management to give the Bluebonnets the conditions they need to become established and flourish year after year.
Previous wildflower plantings helped us learn what works best in this unique landscape. Rather than planting many varieties that bloom at different times, this pilot project will focus on one spectacular flower and one cohesive vision: Texas Bluebonnets.
Our hope is that this first garden is just the beginning.
With its success, we envision sustaining this Bluebonnet Garden and expanding to other areas of Turtle Creek Park, creating a place known throughout Dallas for its beautiful spring display. Families, neighbors and visitors will have an easily accessible place to enjoy Texas Bluebonnets, while photographers can capture engagements, family portraits, milestone celebrations and special moments surrounded by one of our state’s most beloved flowers.
The recent restoration of the Cedar Springs Cascade Waterfall has already brought new life and attention to this area of Turtle Creek Park. Now, we want to make the surrounding landscape a priority and create a garden worthy of this beautiful setting.
Our vision is simple: make Bluebonnets a signature of spring at Turtle Creek Park.
